CLASS HISTORY
W.T. White High School, named after Dr. Warren Travis White (Dallas ISD Superintendent from 1946-1968) first opened in 1964. The school was originally designed for a capacity of 1600 students in grades 10-12. Our school colors, burnt orange and white, and mascot, Longhorns, were chosen because Dr. White was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. The Class of 1966 was the first WTW graduating class as the senior class of 1965 remained at Thomas Jefferson High School. We were the sixth graduating class – graduating on May 28, 1971 at
Moody Coliseum on the campus of SMU. During our years at WTW, John J. Santillo, J.F. Kelsay and Gene Golden were our principals.

Although not all of us graduated together, there are several others that were our classmates at either Thomas C. Marsh Junior High or WTW, or both, that may have moved away, graduated early or later, but have always been considered our classmates. A total number of 675 classmates comprise the WTW Class of 1971. Many of us remained in the Dallas area, but many others live throughout Texas, in other states, and a few in other countries.

Click on the Events link to find information about our class Reunions and events or other WTW alumni events that may be being planned, by other classes or groups of classmates. We invite and encourage all classmates, friends and WTW alumni to attend all of our class events and to stay in touch with classmates. Since 1981, we have had seven class reunions – with at least two more coming, our 55th being planned for 2026 and our 60th expected in 2031. Beyond that, reunions will likely be fewer and dependent on factors related to both planning and expected attendance. We hope to see many of you at our next two Reunions.
